USENET newsgroups are bulletin board type discussion forums distributed over the Internet. Every topic has its own "newsgroup" and, at this time, there are over 20,000 separate newsgroups covering almost every possible topic of interest to humans.

Newsguy, Cruzio's news source, maintains an excellent Web site, which explains their service and provides the answers to many frequently asked questions.

Introduction to USENET News

People read articles in newsgroups which have been posted by others. People may respond to articles either publicly, by posting to the newsgroup or privately, via email to the author of the article. Articles are threaded and it is easy to follow the discussion of a particular topic, because the initial and subsequent postings are grouped together.

To participate in the newsgroups, you need a news reader client. The client connects to a server over the Internet and downloads the current articles from a newsgroup and posts your responses. Many Web browsers include a news client, just as they have an email program. If you think you need a news reader, click here to download one.

Newsguy
Cruzio gets news from a professional news service company called, Newsguy. The Newsguy News Service provides the entire USENET newsgroup hierarchy, including all of the different local and regional newsgroups, wire service news stories and much more.

Newsguy's postings are filtered through their "Spam Hippo" software to remove obvious spam, like an article posted to hundreds of newsgroups without respect to topic.

When you connect, you will be prompted for a login and password. There are two sets of logins and passwords for dialup customers and two sets for DSL customers. One set is for those wanting general access and the other for those who wish to access the restricted adult newsgroups.
