Switching from Classic to Cruzio's New Web Hosting

This is a guide for Cruzio customers who are moving domain services from our Classic hosting to one of Cruzio’s new Web hosting packages: Website Basic, Website Plus or Website Premium. While your site will look exactly the same to visitors, the way you manage your site will change.

Below is an outline of what's new and what to expect.

DOMAIN EVALUATION

If you are interested in moving your domain to the new service, Cruzio will first evaluate your site and let you know about any potential issues. Some sites might be better off staying on the Classic servers.

CHANGES

Because your domain is moving to a different Domain Name Service (DNS) server, Cruzio lets every computer on the Internet know how to find your site's new home. To do this, we change your domain's DNS and point it to our new servers. Well make sure that your site experiences no downtime during the transition, but once its over, you may have to reboot your computer and/or router to force it to take you to the new server.

LOGGING IN TO YOUR CRUZIO CONTROL PANEL

To log in to your new control panel, just visit www.cruzio.com and click MY ACCOUNT at the top of the window, or visit the shortcut http://login.cruzio.com. The old convention of www.yourdomain.com/admin is no longer in effect. Noteduring the transition, you wont be able to login via this method.

WEBMAIL

Your Webmail will use a new and improved program called Horde. It's just as easy to use as the original Webmail, and it has lots of helpful features, including better calendar support, client-side filter rules, and the ability to check email addresses hosted elsewhere, like Gmail or AOL. And those are just a few! To access your Webmail, visit www.cruzio.com and click on MY EMAIL at the top of the window, type in your domain name and click Go, or use the shortcut http://webmail.yourdomain.com. Type in your email name and password and click Log in.

USING OUTLOOK EXPRESS, THUNDERBIRD, OR OTHER EMAIL PROGRAM

Only one change needs to be made in your email program. 1. Find and open the account settings or preferences in your email program and locate the User Name field. 2. Change the current user name to be your full email address. For example, if your email address were postmaster@billsbigboats.com, the user name would say postmaster. You would want to change it to postmaster@billsbigboats.com. That's it!

JUNK MAIL FILTERING

All of the previous tools for dealing with junk mail are still present, but they’ve been seriously improved. The “Help” tool built into the “Manage Spam Filtering” goes into more detail than this document will, but here are some quick tips: Spam Filtering is automatically enabled for all email addresses, but messages that are marked as junk are not automatically moved to a filtered mailbox; instead, the subject line is changed to start with the text ***SPAM***.

To prevent these messages from showing up in your inbox, create a simple rule in your email program that moves these messages directly to its junk mail folder. We have a detailed support document that will walk you through setting this rule step-by-step for both Windows and Macintosh. The process only takes a couple of minutes.

Windows: http://cruzio.com/support/docs/domain_spam_filter_win.html

See the help pages for junk mail filtering in your Cruzio Control Panel for more options.

SSL CERTIFICATES

Previously, a shared SSL certificate was provided. Now, you can buy and install your own secure certificate from a number of vendors. Visit the “Certificates” section of your new Control Panel to learn more.

SMALL CHANGES

  • Web Reports – greatly improved, keeps stats indefinitely; however, you can no longer receive analyses by email.
  • Anonymous FTP – the upload directory is now known as “Incoming”, and there is no longer a “hidden” directory.
  • Directory Index disabled – by default, if a directory does not contain an index file, the contents of the directory will not be displayed. If you absolutely need this feature, you can enable it by adding this line to the .htaccess file in that directory (you may need to create the .htaccess file):
    • Options +Indexes

OTHER NEW FEATURES YOU’LL ENJOY

Check out these other great new features in your Cruzio Control Panel:

  • File Manager - Edit or upload any text file directly on the server; no FTP required.
  • Web Hosting Plus and Premium customers have access to:
    • Installatron - one-click access to many award-winning applications, such as blogs, forums, photo galleries, and more!

Advanced features - control your own DNS, create subdomains, create Web users, use Tomcat Java servlets, Crontab scheduler, and more!
