How to Set Up Your Windows XP Computer to Dial Up to Cruzio

These instructions assume that you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, and that Internet Explorer and Outlook Express are already installed on your system (These come pre-installed with Windows XP). If you choose to use a non-Microsoft Web browser such as Netscape Communicator (which also handles email), you can skip steps 2, 5, 6, and 7. Please follow these instructions from start to finish, step-by-step.

Step 1 — Set Up Dialup

1.1) Click on the "Start" menu, then "Connect To", then "Show All Connections".

Note: If you don't see "Connect to", go to "Control Panel" then "Network Connections", then continue on from step 1.2.

1.2) Under the "Network Tasks" section single-click the "Create new connection" link.

1.3) A "Welcome to the New Connection Wizard" box should appear. Click "Next".

1.4) A "Network Connection Type" box should appear. Select the "Connect to the "Internet" radio button. Click "Next".

1.5) A "Getting Ready" box should appear. Select "Setup my connection manually" radio button. Click "Next".

1.6) An "Internet Connection" box should appear. Select the "Connecting using a dial-up modem" radio button. Click "Next".

1.7) A "Connection Name" box should appear, asking you to "Type the name of your ISP in the following box", Type "Cruzio". Click "Next".

1.8) A "Phone Number to Dial" box should appear. Enter the phone number from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. Click "Next".

If, and only if, you have call waiting, you should enter "*70," before the phone number to disable call waiting while you are on the Internet.

1.9) An "Internet Account Information" box should appear.

In the "User name" box, enter your "Dialup Login" (not your "Email Login") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (All letters in the Dialup Login are lowercase, and Dialup Logins cannot contain spaces.)

In the "Password" box, enter your "Dialup Password" (not your "Email Password") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (Note that Cruzio passwords are case sensitive and contain no spaces or dots; enter your password, using capitals and small letters, exactly as it appears on your Cruzio Login Information sheet.)

Uncheck "Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection". Click "Next".

1.10) A "Completing the New Connection Wizard" box should appear. Put a check in the box "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop".

Click "Finish".

1.12) A "Connect Cruzio" window appears. You are now prompted to connect through "Cruzio". If you wish to set up an email account, select "Cancel" and go to Step 2.

Step 2 -- Set Up Outlook Express Mail

2.1) If you wish to set up an email account, select "Start" then " Email Outlook Express".

2.2) From the "Tools" menu at the top of the window, select "Accounts" from the list. An "Internet Accounts" window should appear. Click on the "Mail" tab, Then click on "Add". From the list select "Mail".

2.3) An "Internet Connection Wizard" will come up and a "Your Name" box should appear. In the "Display Name" box, enter your name as you would like it to appear in the "From" line of your email messages. Click "Next".

2.4) An "Internet E-mail Address" box should appear. In the "E-mail address" enter your "Email Address" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (For example, "mary@cruzio.com" or "joe@joesdomain.com".) Click "Next".

2.5) An "E-mail Server Names" box should appear.

Make sure that "POP3" is selected from the drop-down menu in the sentence "My incoming mail server is a ... server".

In the "Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server" box, enter your "Incoming (POP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet.

In the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" box, enter the "Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (Note: If you use an Internet Service Provider other than Cruzio for your Internet access, you need to use their SMTP setting instead.)

Click "Next".

2.6) An "Internet Mail Logon" box should appear.

In the "Account name" box, enter your "Email Login" (not your "Dialup Login", not your "Email Address") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (For example, if your email address is "mary@cruzio.com", your email login is "mary".)

In the "Password" box, enter your "Email Password" (not your Dialup Password) from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (Note that Cruzio passwords are case sensitive and contain no spaces or dots; enter your password, using capitals and small letters, exactly as it appears on your Cruzio Login Information sheet.)

Put a check the "Remember Password" checkbox. Do not place a check next to "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)".

Click "Next".

2.7) A "Congratulations" box should appear. Click "Finish" to close the wizard.

2.8) Click "Close" to close the Internet Accounts box.

Step 3 -- Connect to Cruzio

3.1) From the "Start" menu, choose "Connect To", then choose "Cruzio".

3.2) Single click "Dial" in the box that appears.

3.3) If you need to change settings, such as the area code you are dialing from, or dialing a number to "get out", you should click on "Start" then select "Connect to" then "Show All Connections". To change your settings highlight the "Cruzio" icon and click on the "Dialing Rules" Button. This will allow you to set up different profiles based on your location. You also can get to the "Dialing Rules" box by clicking the "Properties" button under the "File" Menu. You'll find a Dialing Rules Box that allows you to set up different profiles based on your location.

Step 4 -- How to Log In and Out

Your newly created "Shortcut to Cruzio" icon is what you use to establish your connection to Cruzio. Double-click on it to dial up Cruzio and log you in to the system. After you successfully connect to Cruzio, you must run various "client" software, depending on what area of the Internet you wish to visit. For example, if you wish to browse the World Wide Web, you can run a web browser such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer.

When you are finished with your session, you should exit your client software, and then disconnect from Cruzio

Step 5 -- Set the Internet Explorer Start Page

5.1) Click on the "Start" button, then choose "Control Panel". Double click on the "Internet Options" icon to open the "Internet Properties" dialog box.

5.2) Click on the "General" tab.

Under the "Home Page" section, in the "Address" box, type "http://www.cruzio.com/".

5.3) Click "OK" to save changes and exit the Internet Properties box. Close the control panel.

Step 6 -- Use Outlook Express to Send and Receive Email

6.1) If you are not already logged into Cruzio, log in.

6.2) Launch Outlook Express. (To do this, either click on the Outlook Express icon on your desktop, or find it on your "Start" menu -- often at Programs; Internet Explorer; Outlook Express).

6.3) To get your new email messages, click the "Send/Recv" button across the top of the window. If you are currently connected to Cruzio, this will check to see if you have any new messages on the mail server, and if so, will download the messages to your computer. (If you are not currently connected to Cruzio, you will first be prompted to log in.)

6.4) In the upper right section of the "Outlook Express" window, you will see a list of your incoming messages. To read the contents of a message, click on it and the text of the message will appear in the lower right section of the window.

6.5) To send a message, click the "New Mail" button in the upper-left section of the window.

6.6) In the "To" box, enter the recipient's email address. (As a test example, enter your own email address to send yourself a message).

In the "Subject" box, enter a title for this message. (Call it "Test email to myself".)

In the lower section of the window, enter the text of the message.

6.7) When you are finished typing your message, click the "Send" button (with the envelope icon) in the upper left corner of the message window. This should send your message and return you to the main Outlook Express window.

6.8) Click the "Send/Recv" button to check for any new incoming messages. (If you sent the message to yourself, you should then see this message appear in your incoming messages. If it does not appear, wait a few minutes and try again.)

Step 7 -- Set Up Outlook Express Mail Without Using the Setup Wizard

You can either setup Outlook Express by using the Internet Connection Wizard (step 2) or by manually changing settings. If you have already configured Outlook Express for your Cruzio account using the Wizard, skip this step.

7.1) From the "Tools" menu, choose "Accounts". An "Internet Accounts" box should appear. Select the "Mail" tab across the top of that window by clicking on it.

7.2) There should be an account listed in this window. If there is no account listed, click on the "Add" button, and then select "Mail" from the list that appears. This will start the "Internet Connection Wizard". Re-do Step 2 above, starting on Step 2.3).

If there is an account listed, double-click on it to open the "Properties" window.

7.3) Select the "General" tab. Under the "User Information" section:

In the "Name" box, enter your real name.

In the "E-mail Address" box, enter your "Email Address" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (For example, "mary@cruzio.com" or "joe@joesdomain.com".)

In the "Reply address" box, enter your "Email Address" again.

Make sure there is a check in the box next to "Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing".

7.4) Select the "Servers" tab.

Under the "Server information" section:

In the "Incoming mail (POP3)" box, enter your "Incoming (POP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet.

In the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" box, enter the "Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (Note: If you use an Internet Service Provider other than Cruzio for your Internet access, you need to use their SMTP setting instead.)

In the "Account Name" box, enter your "Email Login" (not your "Email Address", not your "Dialup Login") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (For example, if your email address is "mary@cruzio.com", your "Account Name" is "mary".)

7.5) Select the "Connection" tab.

Put a check in the "Always connect to this account" checkbox.

From the drop-down menu, choose "Cruzio".

7.6) Click "OK" to save your settings and exit "Properties".

7.7) Click "Close" to return to Outlook Express.
