How to Set Up Mac OS X to Dial Up to Cruzio

FIRST, YOU MUST CONFIGURE YOUR NETWORK PREFERENCES:

1. Open your Network Preferences window
(To do this, click on the Apple menu, choose "Location", and then choose "Network Preferences".)

2. Skip this step if you have OS X 10.1 or 10.2:

  • Next to "Show," select "Network Port Configurations." If "Internal Modem" is unchecked, check it. Then next to "Show," select "Internal Modem."

3. Select the TCP/IP tab.

  • In the TCP/IP window, make sure that "Configure" is set to "Using PPP".
  • "Domain Name Servers" and "Search Domains" should be left blank.

4. Select the PPP tab.

  • Enter "Cruzio" for service provider
  • Enter the phone number from your Cruzio Login Information sheet.*note: If you have call waiting, you should enter "*70," before the phone number to disable call waiting while you are on the Internet."Alternate Number" can be left blank.
  • In the Account Name box, enter your "Dialup Login" (not your "Email Login") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (All letters in the Dialup Login are lowercase, and Dialup Logins cannot contain spaces.)
  • In the Password box, enter your "Dialup Password" (not your "Email Password") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (Note that Cruzio passwords are case sensitive and contain no spaces or dots; enter your password, using capitals and small letters, exactly as it on your Cruzio Login Information sheet).
  • Put a check in the "Save Password" checkbox.

5. Select the Proxies tab

  • Make sure that nothing is selected in this window.

6. Select the Modem tab

  • In the "Modem" box, choose your modem from the popup menu that appears when you click on the modem selection.
  • Put a check in the "Wait for dial tone before dialing" checkbox.
  • Put a check in the "Show modem status in menu bar" checkbox.
  • Click the "Save" button in the lower right corner. Your "Network Preferences" are now configured.

7. Click the red button in the upper left corner to close the window.

NOW IT'S TIME TO TEST THE CONNECTION!

1. Select the phone icon in the menu bar
If you do not see an icon of a telephone receiver in the menu bar, return to "Network Preferences", click on the "Modem" tab, and put a check in the "Show modem status in menu bar" checkbox.

2. Choose "Connect"
This dials up Cruzio and logs you in to the system. Once you are connected, you can browse the web using a Web browser such as Safari, Firefox or Netscape; send and receive email using a program such as Mail, Thunderbird or Eudora; and send files via FTP to your webspace.

3. When you are done, choose "Disconnect"
This will log you out and hang up your phone line.

YOU CAN CREATE A SHORTCUT TO INTERNET CONNECT IN YOUR DOCK:

As an alternative to using the menu bar phone icon, you may wish to create a shortcut to the Internet Connect application in the dock. This way you can launch Internet Connect with one click.

  • Double-click on the hard disk, then look for the Applications folder.
  • Double-click on the Applications folder, then look for the Internet Connect icon.
  • Double-click on "Internet Connect" to launch the application. The Internet Connect icon will appear in the Dock.
  • Click and hold on the Internet Connect icon in the Dock and move it to the desired position in the Dock. (If you want the icon in its current position, drag it out of position and then back.) You now have a permanent shortcut installed in the Dock.
  • To use the new shortcut, single-click on the icon. This will launch Internet Connect. Click the "Connect" button.
  • When you are done, click on the "Disconnect" button.
