What You Will Need:
Step 1 -- Get Your ISDN Line From AT&T 1.1) Call AT&T at 1-800-4PB-ISDN (1-800-472-4736) to order your ISDN line. Make sure you specify "ISDN Ordering Code Capability Package EZ1" (IOC EZ1). Tell AT&T that you already have an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and a 3ComImpact IQ ISDN modem. 1.2) Ask for the order code or order confirmation number. Write it down. 1.3) When your ISDN line is installed, make sure you are given the configuration information for the ISDN line. Specifically, you will need to know the phone numbers and "SPID" (Service Profile Identifier) numbers of the ISDN line. (Your ISDN line can have two phone numbers.) You should also know the "switch type." Step 2 -- Install the ISDN Modem 2.1) Connect the modem to the computer using the serial cable, the cable with a 2-inch wide plug on one end. (Insert the 25-pin end of the serial cable into the port labeled "RS232" on the back of the modem. Insert the other end of the serial cable into the serial COM port on the back of the PC, or the modem port on the back of the Mac. Note that the serial cable for Mac is not included with your modem, as indicated in the "What You Will Need" section above.) 2.2) Connect the modem to the ISDN wall jack using the RJ-45/RJ-11 cable, the cable with a 6-pin clear connector on one end and an 8-pin clear connector on the other. (Insert the 8-pin end of the cable into the port labeled "ISDN U" on the back of the modem. Insert the other end of the cable into the ISDN wall jack.) 2.3) Connect the modem to an electrical power outlet using the modem power cable. Step 3a -- Install the Modem Software (Windows 95/98) 3a.1) Locate the floppy disk containing the Windows software that came with the modem. Insert this disk into your PC. 3a.2) Under the "Start" menu choose "Run". 3a.3) A "Run" dialog box appears. In the "Open" box, type "a:setup". Click "OK". 3a.4) After the configuration program is copied to your hard disk, a "Welcome" window appears. Click "Next>". 3a.5) You are now asked to choose a directory for the software installation. Click "Next>" to accept the default directory. 3a.6) After the installer finishes, you are asked if you wish to read the "readme" file. Click "Yes" or "No". (If you choose to read or print the readme file, close its window when you are finished.) 3a.7) A dialog box appears telling you that "Setup is complete".
Click "OK". Step 3b -- Install the Modem Software (Macintosh) 3b.1) Locate the floppy disk containing the Macintosh software that came with the modem. Insert this disk into your Mac. 3b.2) A window containing the 3ComImpact installer icon appears. Double-click on the installer icon. Click "Continue". 3b.3) You may wish to read or print the readme text that appears. After doing so, click "Continue". 3b.4) A dialog box containing an install button appears. Click "Install". 3b.5) After the installer finishes, a dialog box appears, telling you that "Installation was successful". Click "Quit". Step 4a -- Set Up the Modems Control Panel (Windows 95/98) 4a.1) Under the "Start" menu, choose "Settings", then "Control Panel". 4a.2) Double-click on the "Modems" control panel. 4a.3) The "Install New Modem" dialog box appears. Check the "Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list" checkbox. Click "Next>". 4a.4) Now you will see a list of modem manufacturers and models. Click the "Have Disk..." button. (If you had removed the 3ComImpact IQ floppy disk from your computer, reinsert it now.) 4a.5) An "Install From Disk" window appears. Click "OK" to copy files from your floppy disk. 4a.60 Now you will see a list of 3ComImpact IQ modems. Select "3ComImpactIQ". Click "Next>". 4a.7) Now you are asked to select the port. Select "COM2". Click "Next>" (Your modem is probably using COM2. However, if you know your modem is using a different port, select that one instead.) 4a.8) Now you should see a message telling you that "Your modem
has been set up successfully". Click "Finish". Step 4b -- Set Up the Modem Control Panel (Macintosh) 4b.1) The installer installed 6 modem script files into your Extensions folder but, unfortunately, this is not the proper place for them; they must be moved into your Modem Scripts folder that lives within the Extensions folder. To move these files: Double-click on your Extensions folder (which is inside the System Folder on your hard disk). Find the following files: 3ComImpact IQ TollMizer 4b.2) Drag them out of the extensions folder onto the desktop. Now find the Modem Scripts folder which is inside the Extensions folder. Drag these 6 files into the Modem Scripts folder. 4b.3) Open the Modem control panel. (To do this, go to the Apple menu, choose "Control Panels," and then choose "Modem".) 4b.4) When you click on the current modem selection a pop-up menu appears. You should now see the 6 modem scripts in this pop-up menu. Select "3ComImpact IQ-64k-115K", then close the Modem window (click on the close box in the left end of the window's title bar). A dialog box will appear, asking you if you want to save changes. Click "Save". (Note: If you later have problems connecting with this modem script selected, try one of the other 3ComImpactIQ scripts.) Step 5a -- Configure the ISDN Modem (Windows 95/98) The installer copied a folder onto your hard disk called "3comia". (By default, this folder is put in the root directory of your c: hard drive, although you may have told the installer to put it elsewhere when you ran the installer.) 5a.1) Immediately after installation, you should see a window containing a shortcut icon to "3ComImpact IQ". (If you closed this window, you can still find the 3ComImpact IQ software. Under the "Start" menu choose "Programs", then "3ComImpact IQ", then "3ComImpact IQ" again.) 5a.2) Now the "SPID Wizard" starts. (Note that in some cases the SPID Wizard may auto-detect your ISDN line's configuration and may not ask you to supply your phone numbers as indicated below.) The Spid Wizard takes a short while to analyze your ISDN line, then asks you enter your first ISDN phone number. Type the area code ("831" for Santa Cruz County) followed by the 7-digit phone number. Click "Next>". 5a.3) Now enter your second ISDN phone number, including the area code. Click "Next>". The "SPID Wizard" should now successfully configure the modem. 5a.4) If this is the first time you've run the SPID Wizard, you will now be prompted to submit your modem registration online. You can either submit your registration now, or click one of the "Skip Registration" buttons. 5a.5) After you submit or skip your online registration, the next window
you will see displays your ISDN line's configuration. Click the "Exit"
button at the bottom right of the window. A dialog box appears, asking
if you are sure you want to exit the program. Click "Yes". Step 5b -- Configure the ISDN Modem (Macintosh) 5b.1) The installer copied a folder onto your hard disk called "3ComImpact IQ (version number)". By default, this folder is put on your desktop, although you may have told the installer to put it elsewhere when you ran the installer. Double-click on this folder to open it. 5b.2) Inside this folder you will find an application icon also called "3ComImpact IQ (version number)", although the version numbers may not match. Double-click on this icon. 5b.3) A dialog box appears, asking you to "select the port to which the 3ComImpact IQ is attached." Select the port (probably modem port) from the pop-up menu and click "OK". 5b.4) If this is the first time you've connected your modem to your ISDN line, a "SPID Wizard" window appears. Click "Next>". (Note that in some cases the SPID Wizard may auto-detect your ISDN line's configuration and may not ask you to supply your phone numbers as indicated below.) 5b.5) The Spid Wizard takes a short while to analyze your ISDN line, then asks you enter your first ISDN phone number. Type the area code ("831" for Santa Cruz County) followed by the 7-digit phone number. Click "Next>". 5b.6) Now enter your second ISDN phone number, including the area code. Click "Next>". The SPID Wizard should now successfully configure the modem. 5b.7) If this is the first time you've run the SPID Wizard, you will now be prompted to submit your modem registration online. You can choose to click "Register" and submit your registration now, or click "Skip" to register later. 5b.8) After you submit or skip your online registration, the next window you will see displays your ISDN line's configuration. Click "Quit". Step 6 -- Follow the Cruzio Dialup Setup Directions for Your Operating System. Now that your ISDN modem is configured, you need to follow the Cruzio Dialup setup directions that you were given when you applied for your Cruzio account. Important note: When you follow the PPP setup directions, at the place where you enter the phone number to dial, enter "1-831-459-9408". Even if you are dialing from the 831 area code, you should use the full 10-digit phone number. This may allow you to connect at a slightly higher speed due to the way AT&T routes calls. Cruzio provides these instructions as a service to our users. If you have any feedback or suggestions on how to improve these, please send email to support@cruzio.com ©2002 Cruzio (revised 02/19/02)
