How to Set Up Netscape Navigator 2 for Windows 95 to Use Email

These instructions assume you have the disks that come with the Netscape Navigator 2.0 package sold in stores (not the software available via download through the Internet). It's a good idea to read the Netscape manual before installing Netscape. Please follow these instructions from start to finish, step-by-step.

Step 1 -- Set Up the Windows 95 Dialer

1.1) If you've already set up a connection icon to dial Cruzio using PPP, go to step 2.

If you have no connection icon, follow the directions from the Cruzio document "How to Set Up PPP for Windows 95 Step-By-Step."

Step 2 -- Install the Netscape Software

2.1) Have your Cruzio Login Information sheet, and the disks that came with the Netscape Navigator Personal Edition, ready to use.

2.2) Start Windows 95. If you are running any applications, exit them.

2.3) Insert Disk 1 into your floppy drive. Click the "Start" button, then choose "Run".

2.4) A dialog box appears. Enter "A:\SETUP" ( or "B:\SETUP" if the floppy disk is in the B: drive). Click "OK".

2.5) A "Welcome" dialog box appears. Click "Next>".

2.6) A "Choose Destination Location" window appears. Click "Next" to accept the default directory of "c:\Program Files\Netscape\Navigator\".

2.7) Netscape will now begin the installation process, and will prompt you to insert disks. Insert the appropriate disks and click "OK" after each disk is inserted.

2.8) A message appears informing you that the Install Wizard is complete. Click "OK".

2.9) A dialog box appears asking if you want to view the readme file. Click "Yes" to read it.

2.10) After you close the readme window, you will see a new window containing five icons.

Step 3 -- Account Setup

3.1) Double-click on the "Account Setup Wizard" icon in this window.

3.2) A dialog box appears. Click "Next>".

3.3) You are now asked if you already have an Internet service provider. Select the "I already have a service provider" button. Click "Next>".

3.4) You are now asked to name your easy access icon. Call it "Cruzio". Click "Next>".

3.5) The next two dialog boxes tell you what information you'll need to configure Netscape. Click "Next>" for each , until you're asked for your name.

3.6) In the "Your full name" box, enter your real name. (Enter your company name in the other box if you wish.) Click "Next>".

3.7) In the "Login name" box, enter your "Dialup Login" (not your "Email Login") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (The letters in your Dialup Login are all lowercase, and there should be no space between the letters and the numbers.)

In the "Password" box, enter your "Dialup Password" (not your "Email Password") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (Note that Cruzio passwords are case sensitive and contain no spaces or dots; enter your password, using capitals and small letters, exactly as it appears on your Cruzio Login Information sheet.)

(You will not need a TTY window.) Click "Next>".

3.8) In the "Email Login Name" box, enter your "Email Login" (not your "Dialup Login") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (This may have defaulted to the Dialup Login that you entered earlier. If so, delete this and enter your "Email Login.") Remember that your "Email Login" is all lowercase.)

In the "Email Password" box, enter your "Email Password" (not your Dialup Password) from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (Note that Cruzio passwords are case sensitive and contain no spaces or dots; enter your password, using capitals and small letters, exactly as it appears on your Cruzio Login Information sheet.)

3.9) In the "Area Code" box, enter "408". Set the "Telephone Number" to the phone number from your Cruzio Login Information sheet that corresponds to your modem speed. Click "Next>".

3.10) For the "Primary DNS Server", enter your "Primary DNS Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet.

For the "Secondary DNS Server", enter your "Secondary DNS Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet.

For the "Domain Name", enter "cruzio.com". Click "Next>".

3.11) For the "POP Server", enter your "Incoming (POP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet.

For the "SMTP Server", enter the "Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (Note: If you use an Internet Service Provider other than Cruzio for your Internet access, you need to use their SMTP setting instead.)

For the "NNTP Server", enter "cnews.newsguy.com". Click "Next>".

Step 4 -- Modem Setup

4.1) The next window should list your modem. If your modem shows, click "Next>" and go to step 5.

If your modem does not show, click the "Rerun Modem Wizard..." button. (Make sure your modem is turned on and properly connected to your computer.)

4.2) Do not put a check in the "Don't detect my modem, let me specify it" box. Click "Next>".

4.3) Netscape will now attempt to identify your modem. If it does this correctly, click "Next>" and go to step 4.4.

If Netscape fails to correctly identify your modem, click "Change...". You must select your modem's manufacturer from the list on the left, and then select the model from the list on the right. If your modem does not appear in the list, scroll to the top of the "Manufacturer" window, select "(Hayes compatible)", and select your modem's speed in the "Model" window. Click "OK", and then click "Next>".

4.4) Click "Finish."

Step 5 -- Dialing Setup

5.1) Enter the area code and telephone number of the phone you are calling from. Click "Next>".

5.2) If your phone has call waiting, put a check in the "Disable Call Waiting with" box. Click on the down arrow, and select "*70," from the drop-down menu.

If you need to dial a number to access an outside line, enter it in the appropriate box. Click "Next>".

5.3) Click "Finish".

5.4) Now you will see an icon called "Shortcut to Cruzio" on your desktop. To connect to Cruzio, double-click on this icon, then click on the "Dial" button.
