How to Set Up Extra Mailboxes in Eudora 1.5.2 for Windows 95

These instructions assume you are using Eudora for your email program, and that you know how to use Windows 95. Please follow these instructions from start to finish, step-by-step.

Step 1 -- Make a Copy of the Eudora Folder

1.1) From the Windows 95 Desktop, double-click on the "My Computer" icon.

1.2) Double-click on the icon for your hard drive (usually on C:/) to open it. A window should appear with a list of the folders and files on your hard drive.

1.3) Locate the folder named "Eudora", and single-click on it to highlight it.

1.4) Click on the "Edit" along the top of the window. Select "Copy" from the list that appears. The menu should disappear after you've clicked "Copy". (Note: This happens rather quickly, so it may not seem like the computer did anything. It did.)

1.5) Now un-highlight the Eudora icon by clicking anywhere in the white space of the window with the files and folders. Make sure that no other icons in that window are highlighted.

1.6) Click on the "Edit" menu again. Select "Paste" from the list that appears. A new box should appear showing files being copied. When it is finished, you should find a new folder named "Copy of Eudora" in the window.

1.7) Double-click on the "Copy of Eudora" folder to open it. A window should appear with a list of files or icons.

1.8) From the "View" menu, select the menu item "list". Your Copy of Eudora window should now show your files in list form.

1.9) From the "View" menu, select the "Arrange Icons" menu item, then choose "by Type" from the menu that appears.

1.10) From the list of files, find the files that end with the ".mbx" extension, select one file, then press the "delete" key to delete it, and click "Yes" to confirm the deletion. Continue until there are no ".mbx" files left.

1.11) From the list of files, find the files that end with the ".toc" extension, select one file, then press the "delete" key to delete it and click "Yes" to confirm the deletion. Continue until there are no ".toc" files left.

Step 2 -- Create a New Eudora Icon for the Extra Mailbox

2.1) In the "Copy of Eudora" window, find the file named "eudora" or "eudora.exe" with the gray mailbox icon. Click on this file to highlight it.

2.2) From the "File" menu, choose "Create Shortcut". A new file should appear with the name "Shortcut to Eudora".

2.3) Click on the "Shortcut to Eudora" file to highlight it. From the "File" menu, choose "Rename". This should highlight the text in the "Shortcut to Eudora" filename. Type "Eudora #2" to replace that text.

2.4) Left-click on the "Eudora #2" file, and, while holding down the left mouse button, drag it out onto the desktop. It should move out onto your desktop.

2.4) Close all windows to return to the desktop.

Step 3 -- Configure the Settings of the New Mailbox

3.1) Now launch the new icon that you just named "Eudora #2".

3.2) Configure it for the new owner. It should be configured just as the original mailbox was, except for the personal information under the "Settings" option in the "Special" menu. If the original mailbox was configured correctly, the only fields which will have to change in this copy of Eudora are POP Account, Real Name, and Return Address.

For POP Account, enter your "Email Login" followed immediately by the "@" symbol and then the "Incoming (POP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (For example, if your email address is "mary@cruzio.com", your POP Account is "mary@mail.cruzio.com".)

Enter your real name in the "Real Name" box.

For Return Address, enter your "Email Address" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet.

In the "SMTP" box, enter the "Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (Note: If you use an Internet Service Provider other than Cruzio for your Internet access, you need to use their SMTP setting instead.)

3.3) Now go to the "File" menu in Eudora and select "Check Mail". You will be asked for your password the first time. Enter the password for the extra mailbox and click "Okay". You should now receive mail for the new user.
