These instructions assume you have already installed Netscape. Step 1 -- Set the Home Page 1.1) If you are not already running Netscape, launch Netscape. (It is not necessary to be online to set up the preferences.) 1.2) Under the "Edit" menu, choose "Preferences..." (If you have Mac OSX, look under the "Netscape" menu for "Preferences...") 1.3) In the Category section on the left, select the triangle next to the "Navigator" category. 1.4) Under the section labeled "Home Page" click in the box next to "Location". 1.5) In the "Home Page" section, change the homepage to "http://www.cruzio.com/" (this tells Netscape to connect to Cruzio's home page each time you launch Netscape). Click "OK". Step 2 -- Set Up Email 2.1) Under the "Window" menu, chose "Mail & Newsgroups". If you have not set up mail before on Netscape 7, this should take you directly to a wizard. If not, follow step 2.2. If a box pops up asking "Do you want to use Netscape 7 as the default mail application?" click "Yes". 2.2) Under the "Edit" menu, choose "Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings", and select "Add Account". This should open up a "New Account Setup" window. 2.3) Select "Email Account" and click "Next". 2.4) If you wish to have your name appear on email sent from within Netscape, enter your real name in the "Your Name" box. 2.5) In the "Email address" box, enter your "Email Address" (for example, "mary@cruzio.com" or "joe@joesdomain.com") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. Click "Next". 2.6) In the "Server Information" window, choose "POP". For "Incoming Server" enter the "Incoming (POP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. In the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" box, enter the "Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (Note: If you use an Internet Service Provider other than Cruzio for your Internet access, you need to use their SMTP setting instead.) If you have set up a previous mailbox you will not be asked for the outgoing mail server. To change your outgoing mail server, complete steps 2.6-2.8 and then click "Edit" and choose "Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings". Scroll down to "Outgoing Server" and click "Advanced". Here you can add or remove your outgoing mail server. 2.7) In the "User name" box, enter your "Email Login" (not your "Dialup Login", not your "Email Address") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (For example, if your email address is "mary@cruzio.com", your email login is "mary".) Click "Next". 2.8) In the "Account Name" box, enter your email address. 2.9) A "Congratulations" page should come up, listing your settings. Confirm they are correct and click "finish". (If any of the settings are not correct, hit the "Back" option till you get to the screen where you can make the change.) 2.10) When you go to check mail it will ask for a password. Enter it and check the box "Use Password Manager to remember this password". Click "OK". Step 3 -- Set Up NewsGroups 3.1) If you want to set up a News Server, under the "Window" menu, choose "Mail & Newsgroups". 3.2) Click "Edit", then "Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings" and click "Add Account". 3.3) Select "Newsgroup Account" and click "Next" to bring up the "Account Wizard" window. 3.4) In the "your name" box, enter the name by which you want to be identified. In the Email Address box, enter your email address. Click "Next". 3.5) In the "Server Information" window, enter the newsgroup server "cnews.newsguy.com". Click "Next". (If you have DSL with us your News Server will be: dslnews.newsguy.com.) Click "Next" in the "Account Name" window. Click "Finish" in the "Congratulations" window. Click "OK". Creating User Profiles If you have more than one email address and wish to check different mailboxes from the same copy of Netscape, you can do this in one of two ways. You can create different "user profiles," each with its own set of preferences (email address, bookmarks, subscribed newsgroups, etc.), or you can set the current profile to check multiple boxes by following the steps above. If you create additional profiles, Netscape will ask which profile to use at launch. To create additional user profiles:1) If Netscape is running, go to the "File" menu and choose "Exit" on a Windows system or "Quit" on a Macintosh. 2) Launch "User Profile Manager". To do this on a Windows system, single-click on "Start/All Programs/Navigator 7", then single-click on "Profile Manager." To do this on a Macintosh, double-click on the "Netscape Communicator" folder, then double-click on "User Profile Manager." 3) Click "Create Profile" on a Windows system or "New" on a Macintosh. 4) Follow the Profile Setup instructions that appear. Cruzio provides these instructions as a service to our users. If you have any feedback or suggestions on how to improve these, please send email to support@cruzio.com ©2002 Cruzio (revised 02/19/02)
