How to Set Up Netscape Communicator 4 to Use Email

These instructions assume you are have already installed Communicator.

1) If you are not already running Communicator, launch Communicator. (It is not necessary to be online to set up the preferences.)

2) Under the "Edit" menu, choose "Preferences..."

3) The first set of preferences you see will be "Navigator". Change the "Home Page Location" to "http://www.cruzio.com" (this tells Netscape to connect to Cruzio's home page each time you launch Netscape).

4) Click on the triangle (Mac) or the plus sign (Windows) to the left of the "Mail & Groups" category, and select "Identity".

5) If you wish to have your name appear on email sent from within Netscape, in the "Your Name" box enter your real name. (You can leave this box blank if you wish.)

6) In the "Email address" box, enter your "Email Address" (for example, "mary@cruzio.com" or "joe@joesdomain.com") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet.

7) In the "Reply-to-address" box, enter your email address again.

8) Click on the "Mail Server" category.

9) In the "Mail server user name" box, enter your "Email Login" (not your "Dialup Login", not your "Email Address") from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (For example, if your email address is "mary@cruzio.com", your email login is "mary".)

10) In the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" box, enter the "Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet. (Note: If you use an Internet Service Provider other than Cruzio for your Internet access, you need to use their SMTP setting instead.)

11) In the "Incoming mail server" box, enter your "Incoming (POP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet.

12) Click on the "More Options..." button in the lower right corner of the window to bring up the "More Mail Server Preferences" window.

13) Put a check in the "Remember my mail password" checkbox. Click "OK".

14) Select the "Groups Server" category.

15) In the "Discussion groups (news) server" box, enter "cnews.newsguy.com".

16) Click on the "Offline" category.

17) Select the "Offline Work Mode" radio button if it is not already selected.

18) Click on "OK" to close the Preferences window. (You may see a message informing you that "Your new mail directory preference will take effect the next time you restart Communicator".) Netscape is now configured to use with your Cruzio account.

Creating User Profiles

If you have more than one email address and wish to check different mailboxes from the same copy of Communicator, you can create different "user profiles," each with its own set of preferences (email address, bookmarks, subscribed newsgroups, etc.). After you create additional profiles, Communicator will ask you which profile to use each time you start Communicator.

To create additional user profiles:

1) If Communicator is running, go to the "File" menu and choose "Quit" (Mac) or "Exit" (Windows).

2) Launch "User Profile Manager."

If Mac, Double-click on the "Netscape Communicator" folder, then double-click on "User Profile Manager."

If Windows 95 or NT, click on the "Start" menu, choose "Programs," then choose "Netscape Communicator," then choose "Utilities," then choose "User Profile Manager."

If Windows 3.1, Double-click on the "Netscape Communicator" program group, then double-click on "User Profile Manager."

3) Click "New."

4) Follow the Profile Setup instructions that appear.
