How to Set Up Netscape Communicator 2 to Use Email

These instructions assume you are using the edition of Netscape Navigator that has been downloaded from the Internet, not the package sold in stores.

1) Restart your Macintosh, disabling any virus protection (under System 7, do this by holding down the shift key while rebooting until you see "Welcome to Macintosh, Extensions off"; under System 6, do this by dragging any virus protection inits out of the System Folder before rebooting).

2) Launch "Netscape 2.0 Installer."

3) A Netscape window appears. Click on "Continue..." An installation options window appears. Click on "Select Folder." A dialog box appears. Click on "New Folder" and name it "Netscape", then click on "Create." Now click on "Select."

4) If you are not installing Netscape on a Power Mac, click on "Install." If you are installing on a Power Mac, change from "Easy Install" to "Custom Install," check "Netscape navigator 2.0 for Power Macintoshes" and then click on "Install."

5) After installation, a dialog box appears telling you that installation was successful. Click on "Restart."

6) Restart your Mac.

7) After you restart, a window may appear asking if you wish to "Continue setup now." Click on "Don't ask again."

8) Log in to Cruzio using ConfigPPP.

9) Launch Netscape.

10) Under the "Options" menu, choose "General Preferences..."

11) The first set of preferences you see will Appearance." Change the "Home Page Location" to "http://www.cruzio.com" (this tells Netscape to connect to Cruzio's home page each time you launch Netscape). Click "OK."

12) Under the "Options" menu, choose "Mail and News."

13 ) Select the "Servers" tab.

14) Enter the "Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet for the "Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server." (Note: If you use an Internet Service Provider other than Cruzio for your Internet access, you need to use their SMTP setting instead.)

15) Enter your "Incoming (POP) Mail Server" for "Incoming Mail (POP) Server."

16) Enter the "Email Login" from your Cruzio Login Information sheet for the "POP user ID."

17) Enter "cnews.newsguy.com" for the "News (NNTP) Server."

18) Select the "Identity" tab.

19) If you wish to have your name appear on email sent from within Netscape, enter your name for "Your Name."

20) Enter your "Email Address" (for example, "mary@cruzio.com" or "joe@joesdomain.com) for "Your Email."

21) Enter your "Email Address" (for "Reply-to-address."

22) Select the "Organization" tab.

23) Put a check in the "Remember mail password" checkbox.

24) Click on "OK" to close the Preferences window.

25) Netscape is now configured. To learn how to use Netscape, click on the "Handbook" button of the Netscape window, and then click on the "Learn Netscape" link on the Handbook page.
