VirusTotal is a service that analyzes suspicious files and assists in the quick detection of viruses, trojans, and all kinds of malware. If you have downloaded a file or program recently, but want to confirm it is safe for your computer before you open it, you can use VirusTotal. Simply visit the site, locate the file you want to scan, and click "Send File". It will then use several different anti-virus engines to scan for anything harmful and then let you know if it found anything.

Is there any reason Cruzio recommends VirusTotal over the other on-line scanners?

Reason I ask is that we've been using Jotti for years now and they've been spot-on every time:

Apart from Jotti, below are a few other well-known on-line scanners.  It can't hurt to use more than one on a suspect file.

Hi Craigo,

Thank you for list of online scanners.  It definitely cannot hurt to use more than one on a suspect file and it is good to have your options.

The reason we suggested VirusTotal in particular is because it was recommended by The Internet Storm Center: http://isc.sans.org

Thanks,
Sandi
