WinNT 4.0 Dial-Up Error 629: terminated by remote machine

These instructions about a non-Cruzio product are provided for the convenience of Cruzio's customers and may contain inaccuracies. Further questions should be directed to the software manufacturer.

This document is for a WinNT 4.0 user on dial-up receiving the following error when attempting to connect to the Internet:

"Error 629: The data link was terminated by remote machines."

In order to fix this, follow the instructions below:

1. From the desktop, double-click "My Computer".

2. Double-click "Dial-up Networking".

3. Make sure the correct dial-up service is selected under "Phonebook entry to dial". The dial-up service might be called either "Cruzio", as we instruct our customers to do upon first setting up their dial-up, or "Dial-up", as Windows will often default to this name.

4. Click the "More" button and click "Edit entry and modem properties".

5. Select the "Security" tab.

6. Select "Accept any authentication including clear text".

7. Click "OK", followed by clicking the "Close" button to save changes.

8. Restart the computer and attempt to connect to the Internet.
