Having a problem sending mail in Outlook Express? Does the message go to the Outbox and never move the Sent folder?

Most typically, the cause is a damaged Deleted Items folder. With Outlook Express FULLY CLOSED, then go to:

C:\Documents and Settings\<Your User Name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{<Long Random Key String Here>}\Microsoft\Outlook Express.

Locate Deleted Items.dbx, rename it to Deleted Items.old, exit back to your desktop, launch Outlook Express, and see what happens. When Outlook Express is launched, Windows should rebuild the .dbx file you deleted. .

You will no longer have anything in the Deleted Items folder in Outlook Express. Don't worry, though, your messages that were there have not been lost; they are contained in the Deleted Items.old file.

If that doesn't do the trick, with Outlook Express FULLY CLOSED, navigate back to:

C:\Documents and Settings\<Your User Name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{<Long Random Key String Here>}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Locate Folders.dbx, rename to Folders.old, exit back to your desktop, launch Outlook Express, and see what happens. You probably will need to reset your Outlook Express preferences after doing either of these. This may include re-entering your account settings.

If this doesn't work and you want to have the message folder the way they were before, make sure Outlook Express is FULLY CLOSED, and then go back to:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Your User Name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{<Long Random Key String Here>}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Then delete the new Deleted Items.dbx file and rename the Deleted Items.old to Deleted Items.dbx
If you have Folders.old as well, delete Folders.dbx and rename Folders.old to Folders.dbx.
