General Email Help

For questions about email in general, start here.

No filtering scheme is perfect; some spam may get through, and you always run the risk of deleting messages that you want to receive. You should test your spam filters by sending email to yourself, and by having email sent to you from other addresses.

Turn on Junk Mail Filtering
  1. Log in to Cruzio and click the Manage Email link in the upper right hand corner.
  2. Click the Junk Mail Filtering button. Click the Enable Filtering button. Click the Back button.
  3. In the Configure Filter box, under "Add To: Address," add all the addresses, one at a time, that you have forwarding to this email box.
  4. Remember that "Allowed To:" does not guarantee delivery. Because spam is often addressed directly to you, if "Allowed To:" guaranteed delivery a lot of spam would get through.
  5. Leave the advanced features alone for now and wait a day or so.
Checking Your Filtered Messages
  1. Log in to Cruzio and click the Get Email link in the upper right hand corner.
  2. In the Webmail window, click the Preferences icon (icon of a wheel with gears).
  3. In the Messages Listing section, change "Messages per page:" to "100." Scroll down to the bottom and click Save. Click Continue.
  4. In the dropdown menu in the upper left corner, select Filtered.
  5. In the upper right corner, select the checkbox next to Size. This will select all the messages on the page.
  6. Scroll through the messages and uncheck each message you want to save. When you're done, scroll back up to the top of the page. Click the trash can icon to send all checked messages to the trash.
  7. Continue selecting all messages, unchecking the messages you want to save, and trashing the junk messages until all the junk is gone.
  8. At this point, the filtered mailbox should contain only legitimate messages. Open each message and make a note of the "From" address.
  9. In the upper right corner, select the checkbox next to Size. This will select all the messages on the page.
  10. In the dropdown menu on the right side, choose Inbox. Click Move. This will move these messages from the Filtered folder to your Inbox.
  11. Close your Webmail window.
Adjusting Your Junk Mail Filtering Settings
  1. Click the Manage Email link in the upper right hand corner.
  2. Click the Junk Mail Filtering button.
  3. Refer to the "From" addresses you noted before in step #8. In the Configure Filter box, under "Add From: Address," add each of these "From" addresses, one at a time. After adding each address, click Back to return to the Configure Filter area.
  4. Scroll down to the Advanced Features box. Click the Modify Features button.
  5. In the Change Advanced Settings box, make the Junk Mail Filter stricter by lowering the Spam Score by a small amount, like a point or half a point. Click Submit Changes. Close the window.

Repeat the process of checking your filtered messages, and adjusting your filter settings, as needed. Depending upon how much email you receive, once or several times may be required to get your filter score down to 1 or 2.

Lowering the score using this method decreases the likelihood that legitimate messages will be identified as spam and moved to your Filtered folder.
