Purple: Earth Rhythm Farm
Do you regard cucumbers as salad filler—the green slime of salads if you will? A tasteless, who-cares vegetable? The cucumbers at Earth Rhythm Farm will change your mind. Foot-long and crisp, they have the concentrated fragrance probably last experienced on your face in the form of a cream. These cucumbers are delicious! Eating my first slice was like sampling my first dry-farmed tomato. My taste buds woke up and said, “Oh, my, so that’s how they are supposed to taste.” If you remain skeptical that a cucumber could entice you, visit Earth Rhythm Farm for the sheer delight of discovering an organic farm right in the middle of a residential neighborhood, or as they advertise, “in the heart of Santa Cruz.” I stumbled upon Todd and Julie’s charming place when riding my bike through Live Oak. Tucked at the end of Ivy Lane, which is between Capitola Road and Brommer Street off Chanticleer, Earth Rhythm Farm has a stand open on Friday, 12:30-6 pm, May-November. They offer a seasonal variety of beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots (of many colors), collard greens, leeks, lettuces, kale, onions, peppers, radishes, chard, raspberries, spinach, squash, strawberries, tomatoes, herbs and flowers. The stand also sells fabulous homemade jams! On a sliding scale of $580-650, one can buy a Community Supported Agriculture share and receive a box of fresh produce each week during the 25-week season. Earth Rhythm Farm is a secret treasure stashed at the end of a side street just waiting for you to discover it!
