New Year's Day

Gary Published in Untagged  by Gary Print

Hello World. It is a beautiful, sunny and surprisingly warm day here in Santa Cruz. It is great to be able to open all the windows and let the fresh air in on a winter's day. Life is returning to normal after all the holiday activities. While it is great to have relatives visit, celebrate and catch up on what's happened over the year, it is also great to get back to a nice, quiet and predictable routine.

Looking forward to better times ahead. Had a job interview just before Christmas that felt good and will hear this month whether I got the job. Meanwhile,  here are things I'm looking forward to seeing:

The 'Niners are surprisingly in the playoffs...(!)...(?).  Hmmm, same roster, different coaches. But, Cal football was a disappointment.

SF Beer Week is coming up. Will have a pint at Santa Cruz Mountain Brewers tasting room and buy a can of Uncommon Brewers' Baltic Porter. Brother Mark has suggested we start up home brewing again after about a twenty year hiatus. I still have all the equipment and a good source of brewing supplies at Seven Bridges Coop.

Found out I genetically 3% Neanderthal from the DNA testing service 23andme.

Not going to MacWorld Expo for the first time in many years.

There is a lot of activity in planetary space probes: the Mars Curiosity Rover is on it's way to an August landing. It will join the Opportunity rover that is still amazingly working. Dawn is orbiting the asteroid Vesta and sending back amazing images. Messenger is orbiting Mercury and Cassini is orbiting Saturn and likewise sending back great images. Juno is on its way to Jupiter and New Horizons is on its way to Pluto. The Voyager spacecraft are at the edge of the Solar System still responding to commands and sending back data.

Looking forward to the return of the TV shows Venture Bros. and Archer. Hope Community comes back.

Happy New Year's everyone!
