My Digital World Goes Virtual

My deepest, most concealed, most radical secret these days is that I am, in fact, addicted to The Sims 3. Believe me, I know it's not the hardest drug or the most self-destructive personal pursuit, but it is certainly worthy of mild concern. See, I never thought I'd be able to relate to the tech articles of yesteryear, or my mother for that matter, who can spend her work day in front of a computer, then come home and get right back on her PC. Videos for night, spreadsheets for day. Technology for work and play, I say, no wonder her eyes are so bad!

But I'm here and I'm doing it, and it's more than normal now. It's routine and convention. At least during the school year, class would steal me away from the beloved lappy. Trailing behind the times with a cell phone that just makes calls (gasp!), no text, no internet, no tweets-- I like to think it helps lubricate my learning environment. Then again, that's where my iPhone-addict girlfriend comes in-- movie times, tumblr, twitterfon, and that awesome block game return power browsing to my caffiene-laced fingertips.

Now I work for an internet company where I have the highest privilege of blogging and surfing, otherwise known as "content creation and market research" during business hours. Who am I? As if my deal wasn't sweet enough, I head back to my Westside apartment after hours to tend to my Sim, Sim job, Sim house, and Sim hobbies. It's a phenomenal game. I've been woohoo-ing for Sims since my cousins introduced it to me back before I'd even knwon what a woohoo was. The newest in the trilogy boasts supremely customizable characters, streamlined gameplay, awesome graphics, and a whole new bag of twists. Enough new features to require a RAM boost, but I've thanked myself multiple times already for the much needed  upgrade.

What's to come? I'm sure I'm not the only one who spends more than their share of hours facing perpetual glows of a desktop screen, but it's not something that particularly worries me. I still have real hobbies, real homies, and a whole lot of fun doing what I do. Staying connected is a sensation of speed unlike any other. It's multitasking at it's best, and I love the juggernaut pace of information. Livin' the life! --fishodarryl
