Best songs of 2010

Peggy Published in Top 5 by Peggy Print

Well, I waited too long and the Grammys stole my thunder. But yes, I do have a Top 5 songs of 2010 list. As usual, I worked very, very hard on this and I'm pretty confident that I will still like these songs in 10 years.

Unlike the Grammys, I didn't put Arcade Fire in the Top 5.  They were at #6. I just couldn't move anything ahead of them out.

I will embed the videos soon. That's why I was procrastinating; not enough time to do the job right!

5 best songs of 2010:

1. Broken Bells, "The High Road"

Despite the alien spaceship sounds, a really solid song, and the best

of the year for me.

2. Kanye West, featuring Pusha T, "Runaway"

Well you cannot beat the lyrics here. Let's have a toast for the

douchebags.  Plus the classical piano with the ballet in the video.

3. Gorillaz with Lou Reed, "Some Kind of Nature"

Wait for it… at the very end…  "all we are is stars." Gets me every time.

4. Spoon, "I Saw the Light"

The guitar is the thing. Tremendous guitar.

5. Mumford & Sonds, "Little Lion Man"

This one's got wonderful instrumentation, banjo, stand up bass,

piano. These guys really jam.

And here's a shout out to some toe-tapping favorites from the year. I can't quite call these the best of the year, but I love it when they come on the radio:

Katy Perry, "Firework" (I also like "Teenage Dream" but how can I endorse it for my teenage kids? Firework has a much better message.)

The Whigs, "Kill Me Carolyne"

Eminem and Rihanna, "Love the Way You Lie"

Arcade Fire, "The Suburbs"

The Soft Pack "Answer to Yourself" (Lots of 60's-esque songs in 2010, with go-go beats. Fun!)
