At Least The Air Is Free

I was just in Bakersfield visiting relatives and I realized that there is something about Santa Cruz that I may have taken for granted but just grew to appreciate more once I had returned...air.  Yes, there's air down there, too, but it's filled with smog, and is hot, humid, and gets into your lungs, and nowhere near an ocean to blow it all away.

This is a dire problem throughout the San Joaquin Valley.  While at a megastore down there, I saw a woman who didn't look a day over 30 toting around an oxygen tank with tubes in her nose.  That's not right.  And, of course, with weather like that you always want to stay indoors in air conditioned houses, buildings, and cars, which expends more energy and sends more carbon into the air...and so it goes.

Also, I saw James McMurtry recently at The Catalyst recently and had a blast.  Nothing like hearing literate, topical songwriting that mainstream media is too afraid to play. The air may be free, but airwaves aren't.
