It's all over the Internet: Santa Cruz City Council MeetingWe all laughed at the spaced-out Miss South Carolina when she babbled about education and South Africa in 2008. But Santa Cruz has its own brand of crazy babbling. I guess it could happen anywhere, any time someone starts a speech without thinking through what they'll say. This must be why people fear public speaking. Does it reflect badly on our town? The

Hawk Medicine
It was late afternoon as we walked along the railroad tracks, the setting sun a dazzling gold ball before us. My daughter had volunteered to dog sit while a friend was out of town, and we were now returning to our cat filled abode.
A dark shadow passed in front of the sun, then swooped before us again before landing just a few feet away on the fence. Deep

We both had a 4:30 AM wake-up to get the lad to SFO for his 8:05AM direct flight to Dulles airport in D.C. for his Congressional Youth Leadership Council trip to the inaguration of President number 44, Mr. Barak

Laws for LosersWhile driving home from the airport last night, an electronic sign on highway 17 informed me that texting while driving is against the law in California starting Jan 1, 2009.

On the lighter side of xmas: Zombies!
While the rest of you are grappling with the national hypocracy of the Iraq war, buying presents for xmas, the financial crisis, existential angst, ennui, depression and tendencies towards alcoholism, I am honing my skills for the coming zombie apocolypse at CrazyMonkey games (that's right, a mixture of all the above!)

Best Christmas Lights
We're pretty lazy about Christmas decorations at my house, but luckily up the street there's an incredible display. This picture doesn't do justice; there are also animatronic polar bears and electronic Christmas carols playing. Among the beautiful details, I count at least two lit-up Christmas trains, three Santa-and-sleighs, a giant snowflake and |
