There is a lot of current discussion in the City of Santa Cruz about needle exchange, and quite a few anecdotal reports of people encountering discarded needles in public.

Unfortunately, there isn't information about what to do if you find a discarded needle, who to call, or how to dispose of it. After asking around, a contact with SC County who wishes to

Here's a video of  Mary McCaslin and Steve Palazzo from their show last night at Don Quixote's last night, doing a duet of 'Your Lone Journey'. (Steve is my guitar teacher,  and I just got back from my lesson, during which we played this song for a while. It is a really really nice song to play and sing)

Left 4 Dead

Published in zombies by Chris | Comment (0)

Left 4 Dead is the new Gilligan's Island party ice breaking metaphore.

Back in the old days, if you were male, the question was: Ginger or Mary Ann?

Now, in the pre-post-apocolyptic zombie infested world, the new question is:

Bill, Louis, Francis or Zoe?

I wasn't able to sleep, and judging from the noises coming from the washer, drier and Jake's room in the wee morning hours, neither was Jake.

We both had a 4:30 AM wake-up to get the lad to SFO for his 8:05AM direct flight to Dulles airport in D.C. for his Congressional Youth Leadership Council trip to the inaguration of President number 44, Mr. Barak

While driving home from the airport last night, an electronic sign on highway 17 informed me that texting while driving is against the law in California starting Jan 1, 2009.

Ummm, people text while DRIVING?

Common sense isn't.

On the lighter side of xmas: Zombies!

While the rest of you are grappling with the national hypocracy of the Iraq war, buying presents for xmas, the financial crisis, existential angst, ennui, depression and tendencies towards alcoholism, I am honing my skills for the coming zombie apocolypse at CrazyMonkey games (that's right, a mixture of all the above!)

My fellow citizens, events in Iraq have now reached the final days of decision. For more than a decade, the United States and other nations have pursued patient and honorable efforts to disarm the Iraqi regime without war. That regime pledged to reveal and destroy all its weapons of mass

Nina Paley is an amazing artist and former Santa Cruz resident.  She's the artist who gave life to our beloved Cruzio Kitty almost 20 years ago.

She has since moved from Santa Cruz and has become an accomplished animator.

Forbidden Love

Isn't it odd how Love, the most exalted of emotions, is the source of so much trouble in the world?

Below, find some excellent Flash contemplations of forbidden love. The artist has finished 4 out of 5 episodes in this story, number 5 is not out yet. Be warned that number 4 ends on a cliff hanger! (special thanks to my son Jake for turning me on to these)

Let Me Google That For You

Published in Zenstuff we likehappy time by Chris | Comment (0)

I am often asked questions by people who could easily search the Internet for the answer and frankly, find it irritating to be treated as a walking encyclopedia.

I started responding with "I don't know, what does Google say?"

However, there are certain times when the knife twist of sarcasm is called for.

In such cases, I send 'em to

Neil Young Live!

One of the joys of being the Cruzio Webmaster (tm) is that I peruse the web logs and see who's hittin' the site, and sometimes, how they got here.

Without fail, on the local monthly search reports, there are dozens of searches for the phrase "Neil Young".

Okaaayyyyyyyyyyyy.

But today, let there be a valid response.  NPR, for a limited time, is hosting the

Last fine day of the year?

Published in wonders of naturelocal colorhappy time by Chris | Comment (0)

The waves were a little bit better out at Steamer's yesterday, which looks like the last fine day of the year as we comfortably slip off into winter.

Thanks to my Bucci polarizing glass lens sunglasses, the day had a psychedelic tone to it. The colors and the clarity of the afternoon light, and the sun gleaming through the waves were very special.
