Dear Clara & Dio, I just want to take a moment to tell you how much I am enjoying Zumba with Clara & Brenda at Minorsan. I have recently been taking free classes at other studios in Santa Cruz, and it has made me aware of a few things I’d like to share: • I appreciate the warm & friendly way I

Today is one of my deathaversaries. Do you have those? They're not anniversaries, where you celebrate another year accomplished. Instead, they're the days where you say, "We would have been together x amount of years today..."
Deathaversaries note of course physical deaths, but also the more intangibles - buy outs, divorces, disappointments. I was always

As a connoisseur of irony, it is with purely academic delight that I bring to your attention the news that the diabolical mastermind of the attempt to declare Hunnington Beach, CA "Surf City USA" via the offices of the courts and not through any other basis in merit, history, or reality, has resigned, suddenly and without explanation. I direct your

In these hands be ceaseless action
Bringing me divine satisfaction -Asterius
Yesterday I received a hand analysis by Santa Cruz life coach Denise Diani-Friedman. As an astrologer, it was trippy to me how much it corresponded to not just my natal chart, but my current transits. Quite simply, I am in my Uranus opposition, otherwise known as the mid life crisis.

Purple - NIMBYism Not in my backyard! NIMBY. In Santa Cruz, being a NIMBY is like standing butt naked on a street corner and shouting that you've been abducted by aliens. Actually, the latter probably would not rate a second glance, whereas people spit out the word NIMBY like a bite of worm-riddled fruit. But, I not only practice NIMBYism, but also

As the days went on, I began to understand why the daily language of Ata lacked tense. There were times for doing certain things: times for planting, for dreaming, for eating, for telling dreams. There were times, but no time.
"Time doesn't exist here," I told Augustine. "There is only now," she agreed.
"It's because nothing changes."
"Change comes, but

Welcome summer visitors. Among the other splendors to be explored in Santa Cruz County is the vibrant bluegrass music scene. I know, I know, who knew? No mention of local bluegrass in the brochure, just doctored photos of people enjoying the beach on one of the four days per month the fog lifts in the summer. Local notables include Bean Creek, The Abbott

Information from Anne Saunders at Falcon Ridge that we've been asked to post to both lists: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ This is Anne back in office in Sharon CT. Most important news, only a few bruises from monster hail and a couple panic attacks but NO INJURIES. This was a mini tornado that hit us Sunday, it never touched down. We had been tracking this storm, labeled F5

This just in from Tracy Grammer regarding Falcon Ridge Folk Festival 2008: We were a little soggy and a little shaken, but yes, we survived the storm that shut down the 20th Annual Falcon Ridge Folk Festival.
There we were, on the main stage under a darkening sky, with the whole hillside singing "Gentle Arms of Eden" as the flash, crack and boom inches

Welcome summer visitors! By now, some members of your family have run away to follow the band, others are in traction from the awesome G forces imparted by the Cave Train, and still others are walking on the ceiling of the Mystery Spot. Fear not, there's still plenty of fun to be had, on wheels! Santa Cruz is a bike (and scooter, who knew!) heaven. Yes,

Often it feels like all news is bad news. In the spirit of happy and positive things in the world, I share with you the cutest picture I've seen this week:
CANEY, Kansas (AP) -- Oh, my! Three tiger cubs at a Kansas zoo are getting some maternal care from an unlikely source -- Isabella the golden retriever.

I have till November... I started studying for this test a few days ago, but today, I just had to rearrange my guest room and make it into a Guest Room/Sewing Room. That means I will have to clean my uniforms and clothing I cannot wear anymore, (but cannot bear to part with), out that closet so I can store all my fabric, yarn and other fabric goodies.

I was doing some spring cleaning, going through a bunch of old schoolwork in my kid's room. In a typical homework session for the first grade, the final assignment was to write one sentence about elephants—in the zoo, at the circus, whatever. I flipped to the last section, where she had neatly printed her sentence, “I have nothing to say about
