Animated gifs of local webcams

Chris Published in wonders of naturelocal color by Chris | Comment (3)

Being a programmer has definite benefits. Perl scripts to download and archive webcam images, and the ultra fabulous gifmerge utility to combine them into animated gifs.

These are animations from the Cruzio LomaCam and BusCam of the last 24 hours, using images taken every 1/2 hour.

There are a couple dozen webcams (that I know of) in the County, there's a

Why Everyone Should Vote

RamblingRose Published in ReflectionsPolitics by RamblingRose | Comment (0)
This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers; they lived only 90 years ago.

Remember, it was not until 1920

that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking for the vote.

And by the end of the night,

Corporations And Other Parasites

Wordsmith Published in Corporate History by Wordsmith | Comment (0)

As congress agrees to bail out Wall Street with our tax dollars whilst it implodes and against our wishes, it's important to understand an aspect of our American economic system and why it's such a mess.

In the beginning of the U.S., corprations were tightly regulated because their very structure was built to extract wealth out of the New World without

I found this poem To Realize on my friend Emma's blog, JubileeFarms, and had to repost it here:

To realize
The value of a sister
Ask someone
Who doesn't have one.

To realize
The value of ten years:
Ask a newly
Divorced couple.

To realize
The value of four years:
Ask a graduate.

To realize
The value of one year:
Ask a student who
Has failed a final exam.

To realize

Ringing Wedding Dingalings

RamblingRose Published in Little Stories by RamblingRose | Comment (0)

A man went to the hospital to have his wedding ring cut off from his dingaling.

According to the Nurse attending, the patient's girl friend found the ring in his pants pocket and she got so mad at him, she used petroleum jelly to slip the ring on his dingaling while he was asleep.

I don't know what's worse:

1) Having your girlfriend find out you're

Memory Walk 2008

Chris Published in local color by Chris | Comment (0)

Some pictures from the Memory Walk in Seascape. We ended up over shooting and walking an extra mile up the beach. I've never been down there either in Seascape the village or the beach.

We saw a couple of fishermen casting into the surf.

And we saw a lot of surfers just a few yards off the beach in the really shallow water where these cool little

 Dog Medicine

(Mercury retrograde and I seem to reviewing the past. Here's a blog entry from 2005)

I just had the trippiest experience. Last night as I was coming home, I noticed a dog in the middle of the street. Big white dog, bit bigger than a lab, with a brown squishy face, and deep brown eyes. A group of teenagers were telling him to go home, but it

Healthy Relationships

An unhappy marriage increases your chances of getting sick by 35% and shortens your life four years. Dr. John Gottman, a marriage researcher at the University of Washington-Seattle says, “I often think that if fitness fanatics spent just 10 percent of their weekly exercise time working on their marriages instead of their bodes they would get three times the

The Invitation

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.

I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t

So I came to you on my lunch hour, Anonymous Vietnamese Waxer Lady who works at the cheapie nail place. We were mere strangers before this afternoon, but

All the taxpayer funded bailing out happening on Wall Street makes me wonder when it's all going to end.  I know it sounds anticapitalist, but I feel like hitting rock bottom just so I can know where the bottom is.  Many are already at rock bottom, and they're not getting a bailout or any help at all.  The speculators, fleecers, and corporate parasites

As we walked down to the beach, my daughter said, “Ok, mom, I’m going to want you to remember something.”

I said, “Ok, honey, I’ll try to inscribe it into my little brain.”

“Mom,” she said, a little exasperated, “It’s not your brain that’s little. It’s your bladder.”

Have you done your kegles today?
