Love eating here by myself,  12/27/08 at 8:47 PM I like to eat sushi alone so I can fully enjoy the experience. Shogun offers quick service at the bar, excellent food, and a pleasant atmosphere. I come away from the experience feeling diffuse satisfaction and warm appreciation for the chefs.

On the downish side, I sometimes wish that they would deal with the check as quickly as they deal with the order. I frequently wait longer for change than I did for the sushi.

The bathroom is okay (Omei sets the bar for bathrooms), but I'm not in love with handling a big key that every single other person who just used the facilities has handled.

 Our first choice when we eat out,  12/27/08 at 8:35 PM I'm always happy to eat at Omei, and I'm always happy to recommend it to others. One of my best experiences there was the opportunity to order for a group of people who were unfamiliar with the menu. I recommend the broccoli with cashews, the lichee chicken, red oil dumplings, and the basil eggplant.

Omei has a flat service charge that can be off-putting, depending on your perspective. Ordering to-go does not get you out of the service charge.

For groups larger than 5 people, the tables are too large to talk to anyone but your most immediate neighbor, especially when the place is crowded with talkers. I think of this restaurant as better suited for more intimate meals.

The bathroom is one of the nicest restaurant bathrooms in Santa Cruz.
