I've used Freecycle when it was too inconvenient to take something to Goodwill, or when I thought the item would never be found by someone who needed it. I'm not a regular "trader," just a regular person who needs to get rid of stuff now and then.

To participate, you join a private mailing list. I recommend signing up for digest format, so you just get one email compilation per day of all the offers. If you want to take a break from the emails, you can turn them off, and on again later.

Every time I posted, I got a quick response to my offer. The recipient came to my house at *my* convenience and was super grateful for the item. I gave a futon to a family with a little boy, and an extra long network cable to a student.

Besides reducing waste, it's a cool way to connect with other local folks. It makes you feel goooood!

Liberate yourself from consumer guilt by giving away unwanted items to a local someone who needs it! Or get something you want / need without spending money! This local group is very well managed and active with people trading all sorts of goods everyday. Check it out and help the environment by participating!
