TIPS FOR MAINTAINING SECURITY AND PRIVACY

Email is like a cell-phone call
Although it's unlikely that anyone will see a given piece of email, normal email is sent over the Internet in plain text. If it's intercepted, it can be read. Please don't send data such as passwords or credit card numbers in plain email. If you are interested in carrying on encrypted email conversations, which are more private, use the resources listed in the left hand column to inform yourself.

Look for secure Web pages when transmitting confidential data
When a Web page asks you for a credit card number, look in the bottom left corner of your Web browser. You should see either a golden key or a padlock that is shut. That's the sign that the transmission between your computer and the server of the Web page is secure. If you want to see an example, look at Cruzio's online signup form. Trusting private data to any other sort of Web page is much more risky.

Use Cruzio's secure services for your own Web sites
Cruzio supplies free secure Web space for all Web hosting accounts. Keep your customers secure and confident by letting them know your Web store uses secure transmission.

Password-protect your Web pages
Be aware what personal information you post on your Web site. This can included street addresses, telephone numbers, pictures of family members with full names or other contact information. Keep in mind that anyone with a computer and Internet access can find your site and see what you put on it — unless you password-protect it. Cruzio has a password feature which works on all or part of a Web site hosted with us. See how to use it here.

Cruzio doesn't give your information away
We don't sell, exchange, or share your information with other companies, not even with "our business partners" or "related companies under our corporate umbrella" (we're a small company, we don't even have other companies under our corporate umbrella.) Cruzio has strict rules about giving out even small pieces of information or making any changes to an account. We must see proof of identity or proof of account responsibility before we do so.

Don't Spam On Us
Cruzio fights the fight against spam! We are vehemently against the ongoing trend of "spamming", or sending out mass junk mail, through the Internet. Any Cruzio member found to be doing so through our service is subject to immediate termination of their Cruzio account, as is stated in Cruzio's terms and conditions.

Cruzio Privacy Statement

Cruzio has developed the following online privacy policy to protect
personally identifiable information (information that can be associated
with a specific individual or entity, such as name, address, telephone
number, email address and/or information about online activities
directly linked to them). This policy applies to all personally
identifiable information that Cruzio obtains when a customer registers
for or uses a Cruzio online service, including visiting the Cruzio Web
site.

Disclosure of personally identifiable information

Cruzio will not sell, trade or disclose to third parties any personally identifiable information derived from the registration for or use of a Cruzio online service without the consent of the customer (except as required by subpoena, search warrant or other legal process). If Cruzio includes your name and any other personally identifiable information in a directory that Cruzio creates from information we receive as an online service provider, Cruzio will give you the opportunity to have your information excluded from that directory. Business directories that Cruzio creates may, however, contain similar information obtained from other sources.

Collection and use of personally identifiable information

Cruzio will collect and use personally identifiable information for
billing purposes, to anticipate and resolve problems with your service, or to create and inform you of products and services that better meet your needs. This means that Cruzio may use your personally identifiable information to market new services to you that we think will be of interest to you, but we will not disclose your personally identifiable information to third parties who want to market products to you.

Partnerships with third parties

Cruzio partners with American Telephone & Telegraph (AT&T) to provide DSL services. If you choose to purchase DSL services, Cruzio must release some personally identifiable information to AT&T and its affiliates. The privacy policy of AT&T is not under Cruzio's control and may differ from Cruzio's.

Cruzio partners with GKG.net to provide domain name registration services. If you choose to register a domain name, Cruzio must release some personally identifiable information to GKG.net. The privacy policy of GKG.net is not under Cruzio's control and may differ from Cruzio's. Additionally, when you register a domain name the information you submit to the domain name registrar becomes publicly available on the Internet.

If you choose to purchase ShopSite software and set up an online store, you will be asked if you would like to voluntarily register your store for listing in the ShopSite directory. If you decide to register your store, you will be linked directly to the ShopSite Web site to provide this information. Cruzio does not have control over the personally identifiable information you submit to ShopSite.

Cruzio may partner with other third parties to provide additional customer services. If these services require Cruzio to release personally identifiable information, this will be stated at the time you purchase such services.

Security

Cruzio has implemented technology and security features and policy guidelines to safeguard the privacy of your personally identifiable information from unauthorized access or improper use. All of Cruzio's online forms that ask for credit card information (to order a service, or to make a payment) use the industry standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption to protect the data in transit. Any credit card information electronically stored by Cruzio is also encrypted.

Email contents

Cruzio will not read or disclose to third parties private email communications that are transmitted using Cruzio services without your permission, except as required to operate the service, protect the network, or as otherwise authorized by law.
